Before & After: Benefit Cosmetics
Hey everyone! Hope you're all having a wonderful Friday. I've been seriously loving that reel/tiktok trend of photographers showing their before and afters with text on top saying "when clients ask for raws" and it sort of inspired me to start this fun little post series of our before and after images. Because why the heck not. Now if I had all the time in the world, I would love to make edit with me videos for all of our images but there's just no way. I'd never get our client work done, haha! So, I thought it would be fun to share some before and after shots of our Benefit shoot because it's probably one of the more heavily edited batch of images that took a million years to retouch. All worth it baby. But seriously, it's crazy how much of a difference retouching can make on an image. Well let's get into it!
Part of the thing that made this shoot the most interesting to retouch is the fact that we planned to have a lot of graphical elements. The client was also very particular about the colors matching exactly. Of course, you all know it's almost always impossible to get the exact color at the hardware store but we aim to get close. Thank goodness for Photoshop. For many of the shots, we also had to shoot several plates to make sure we photographed the reflective products correctly. I won't bore you with all of those shots but to paint a better picture, I included one or two extra unedited images. Anyway, I hope you enjoy part 1 of this fun little series. If you have any questions or comments, please drop them below or if you want to start your own series on Slack, please do! It's so fun to see the difference.

Sometimes, if we can get away with it, I'll have Elle hold something from one part so that I can composite later in post. Like this shot above for example, I wanted to get a clean top part of the Moodelier prop without the c-stand being reflected into it. Voila!

Before:
We had to photograph and edit every single product at varying lengths to show that they were popping up and down. This edit was insane. Took me at least 2 full work days.
